Job description

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will lead a team of 9 people and use your technical expertise to quality assure analytical projects.

You will collaborate with stakeholders on critical strategic projects, working particularly closely with colleagues in Information Technology Services (ITS) and other technical teams.

Contract management is a key element of this role. For instance, you will manage the socio-demographic data contract, procuring data and undertaking analysis which will categorise the UK into segments in various ways depending on each supplier of that data.

You will work on analytical projects from beginning to end, ensuring high standards are consistently maintained throughout the process to deliver the best outcome. You will produce reports for customer service measures and the agency’s business plan.

You will join a highly engaged team of skilled professionals. This is a busy, high-profile role that will have a significant impact on the services provided by the DVLA. The role offers the opportunity to grow an area and its scope of responsibilities, driving change and supporting the agency’s strategic aim of maximising results of evidence-based decision-making.

Understanding the needs of each team member, you will also be required to mentor, coach and develop the team to maximise their potential, driving engagement through involvement and inclusion.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Driving a full, comprehensive work programme by planning, designing and evaluating high quality analysis projects that support the design, development and continuous improvement of DVLA services.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external customers and stakeholders including operational leads, Service Management, and IT specialist roles/squads to deliver projects such as Management Information and Business Intelligence (MIBI), utilising Agile methodologies.
  • Understanding the different phases of product delivery planning and running analysis, contributing to decision-making, utilising project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Ensuring self, team, agency peers and talent pools are fully aware of, and maximise, relevant data models, tools, sources and methods, that deliver repeatable data processing, comparisons, in a professional, easy to digest narrative, supported through appropriate development opportunities.
  • Leads colleagues to undertake socio-demographic profiling to further the understanding of users and customers to provide additional insight and make recommendations for improvements.

This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.

Person specification

You are an experienced technical leader with the ability to support and motivate your team to achieve their potential and deliver fantastic results. You will have managed a team in the area of data analytics and be confident leading projects involving analysis of large data sets, including socio-demographic analysis.

You will have a passion for data along with knowledge and an understanding of analytical concepts and the lifecycle of projects.

To thrive in this role, you will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to adapt your style and present complex information in clear and concise terms for a variety of audiences, including technical and non-technical colleagues.

You demonstrate strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, and can prioritise and delegate appropriately in order to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

You are confident with providing constructive challenge and offering alternative suggestions and solutions.
