Job description

As the Head of Operational Business Analysis and Performance, it will be your responsibility to lead the HMCG Operational Business analysis and Data and Analysis team and be accountable for HMCG data collection, analysis, visualisation, and reporting which supports business decision making at a strategic and operational level.

This role will be required to interact and communicate with internal and external stakeholders and will be able to make connections to source data that may not readily accessible. This role requires excellent written and verbal skills and ability to be able to articulate findings in a logical and structured manner.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • To understand and contribute to the strategic operational needs of the HMCG, relevant stakeholders and key partners in relation to all data and analytical requirements.
  • Responsible for the creation, design, and maintenance of HMCG Operational databases and/ or data recording tools, continually reviewing the integrity and quality of data sources, and highlight and query anomalies within internal and external datasets, while adhering to data security.
  • Responsible for HMCG operational data analysis using appropriate analytical software packages and business intelligence tools to develop processes for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Responsible for developing and applying advanced statistical techniques and models, for example Statistical Process Control, Data Summarisation and Predictive Analytics to inform operational procedures and strategic direction of HMCG.
  • Responsible for the presentation and explanation of statistical analysis in core analytical reports to strategic management teams, Office of the Chief Executive and Ministers, using data visualisation techniques to identify and create effective ways to present the data and analytical outputs.

Person specification

About You

  • To be successful in this role, you will need to hold a degree in Data Science or Data Analytics or have previous relevant experience in the research / analysis field.
  • You will have an analytical mindset, capable of researching analysis techniques to confidently produce analytical reports and presenting findings.
  • You will have the ability to analyse and manipulate large and or complex datasets using Microsoft Excel, Power BI or similar analytical software.
  • Building brilliant working relationship quickly comes like second nature to you, including excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior external stakeholders.

Additional Information

This role will be based in the Southampton HQ (or relevant office).  MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work.

The expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace or out on official business. Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.

The role holder will be expected to participate in ongoing continuous professional development, and this may require spending time away from home and the workplace.

The role holder will be required to undertake travel nationally and internationally to represent the MCA and/or the UK. However notice will be given prior to travel.
