An opportunity to join our customer focused technical IT Field Operations team.  Working across a wide sway of technologies and applications on the Windows 10 Operating System.  Gaining wide exposure to the latest laptop and desktop hardware and software, supporting Police Officer, Staff and Volunteers across Kent.

The IT Field Operations team provide IT support for Windows based workstations, laptops and their peripherals alongside bespoke Policing hardware and software.  Providing mobile IT support across the County.

The current vacancy is to support all Essex Police sites across the county.  As a Field Operations Engineer, day to day duties will involve a significant amount of driving, attending Police Stations and other sites across the county to provide on-site, face to face IT support to Police Officers and Staff.  Ensuring they have the necessary IT equipment to enable them to perform their duties.  Therefore, a full valid UK driving licence is required for the role.  The role also entails, providing support at our office drop-in repair centre, located at Essex Force HQ in Chelmsford Essex, as well as well IT equipment moves and changes around the County, which involves manual handling of IT and Audo Visual equipment.

Supporting front line officers and staff is vitally important, so patience, tact and positivity is required, to put our operational officers at ease, and to be able to work through their technical requirements, installations and repairs.


We are looking for an adaptable, self-motivated, and enthusiastic person to join this hard-working Field Operations team.  Ideally you will have worked within an IT operations environment previously, preferably within a similar support role (however if this doesn’t quite fit: tell us about any alternative experience or academic learning in the IT field that you have). The ability to support Microsoft products, in particular Windows 10 is key. Your aptitude to learn appropriate technical skills quickly is extremely important, as well as the ability to work alone (remotely) as well as part of a team.


Please evidence the following in your application:

  • Strong communication skills especially in relation to Customer Service and your attention to detail and taking responsibility and accountability
  • A working knowledge of Windows 10 Operating System
  • Hardware and Software Diagnostic skills
  • A Valid UK driving licence

Please also evidence if you have any understanding or knowledge of the following desirable areas in your application for this role:

  • Laptop, workstation and printer / MFD hardware diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Knowledge / awareness of Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Basic Networking knowledge and diagnostic skills

The role is a remote field operation engineer role, with some office-based work.  With office based at Chelmsford Essex.

Standard Office hours are 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday, however there may be occasions where you are asked to work outside of these cores hour to meet operation requirements so some flexibility would be expected.

Essex Police offer incremental increases within this salary band, therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £32,802.00.

Kent Police and Essex Police have separate salary grading systems therefore the salary for this position will be dependent on which home office force you are appointed to. This will be discussed with the successful applicant before a final offer is made.
