Payroll Manager

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller you’ll manage a team of five direct reports and owns and manage the employee payment process in respect of salaries, expenses, relocation payments and pension contributions paid to all UK and overseas employees (circa 5,000 employees). You’ll also manage the implementation of the annual pay award, in consultation with HR.

Key responsibilities:

  • Recruit, develop, motivate and manage the Employee Payments team, and regularly review their performance.
  • Manage the payroll service to CAA Pension Scheme, including the implementation of the annual cost of living increase.
  • Manage the process for paying expenses, including the Corporate Credit Card scheme.
  • Provide Treasury with forecasts to ensure cashflow planning.
  • Design, manage and implement a robust control environment to ensure data integrity and to prevent errors/fraudulent activity.
  • Manage the requirement of internal and external audits.
  • Act as a Business Process Expert, designing managing and implementing the functionality of the SAP Payroll and Expenses modules.
  • Continually review and influence processes, addressing areas for improvement and drive positive change within the Employee Payments function.
  • Ensure business continuity for all key finance processes by developing and maintaining a robust business continuity plan.

Key skills and experience:

You’ll be a seasoned Payroll Manager with SAP experience gained in a large, complex, and ideally Unionised organisation. You’ll have experience in and enjoy managing and nurturing a team and you’ll be a member of the Institute of Payroll Management with in-depth knowledge of Payroll/PAYE policy and procedures, and knowledge of international payroll.

  • Ability to recruit, train coach and develop team members and colleagues.
  • Good knowledge of the attributes of a robust control environment.
  • Business Process Expert experience and an excellent understanding of SAP.
  • Exceptional written and communication skills.
  • A strong team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive with excellent attention to detail with the ability to plan, organise a team and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Integrity and the ability to contribute to commercial discussions confidently.
  • Experience of SAP implementations, payroll migration and/or change management will be ideal.
