Head of Credit Risk

The Head of Debt & Credit Risk is a critical leadership role in the E.ON Next Credit management function. Reporting to the Director of Credit Management, the role is accountable for the understanding and ownership of customer credit risk and working with the debt leadership team to develop strategies to prevent & recover debt (including scorecard creation, collection path development, payment adequacy management) for both the Residential & SME portfolios.

The aim is to support our customers in avoiding and resolving debt in a fair and transparent way, recognising the cost-of-living pressures customers are facing currently, and ensuring that we have approaches in place that drive us to best in class debt management performance.

It will be key to promote a culture of debt awareness across the organisation, ensuring that debt prevention and resolution informs all relevant decisions and activities, whether that be operational, commercial or financial. The ability to influence and persuade will therefore be integral to success in the role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Credit Risk team (c.25 FTE) – developing capability, managing outcomes & overseeing delivery.

  • Develop and own the Credit Risk strategy – development of prevention, collection and recovery strategies. End to end ownership of credit and debt strategy across the customer lifecycle, from credit risk policy and pre-delinquency identification to collections journeys, debt system management to debt sale.

  • A key member of the debt leadership team, you’ll work hand in hand with the rest of the debt leadership team to drive improved cash & bad debt outcomes, whilst ensuring that we have fair & empathetic approaches to customers that are struggling to pay.

  • Be a thought leader on ways to improve our customer credit management experience and commercial outcomes when it comes to debt management, marrying this with the need to drive high levels of customer satisfaction, positive brand sentiment & other wider business aims.

  • Define the credit risk and debt management policies, embedding a culture of responsible lending and providing clarity on how fair outcomes should be delivered for customers (with a particular focus on ensuring protection of vulnerable customers)

  • Direct the development of customer risk scoring and segmentation using advanced statistical techniques and machine learning, developing scorecard.

  • Partner with external bureaus, internal data and tech teams to identify the right tech & data partners, developing the right data set to inform our debt strategies, with innovative use of data analytics to better understand customer situations & behaviours, debt book development and improve outcomes.

  • Ownership of the debt related management information suite, ensuring all stakeholders have appropriate clarity on debt performance and operational teams have the right insight to direct their activities.

  • Own the delivery, running and optimisation of the credit management workflow & collection systems.

  • Actively contribute to E.ON’s data leadership community and maintain best practice standards of data management within the team.
