The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Regulatory Economist and Appraisal Economist.

Regulatory Economist

The Regulatory Economist provides high-quality economic analysis and analytical assurance across the Agency’s regulatory programme. Working as part of the Economic Analysis Team, you will influence policy development, support Impact Assessments and Post Implementation Reviews, and help embed good analytical practice across the MCA.

Appraisal Economist

The Appraisal Economist provides robust economic analysis and assurance for the Agency’s investment programme. As part of the Economic Analysis Team, you will work with colleagues across the Agency and Department for Transport to strengthen evidence-based decision making and support delivery of MCA’s analytical strategy.

 

Top Responsibilities

Regulatory Economist (Permanent)

  • Providing analytical input and assurance for MCA’s regulatory programme and high-profile regulatory issues.
  • Delivering economic analysis for Impact Assessments and Post Implementation Reviews.
  • Supporting MCA’s response to the Government’s Regulatory Action Plan through high-quality analysis of regulatory impacts.

Appraisal Economist (12-month fixed term contract)

  • Providing analytical input and assurance for MCA’s investment programme and other priority analytical issues.
  • Delivering economic input into business cases and evaluations to support investment objectives.
  • Applying appraisal techniques, optioneering and uncertainty analysis to support evidence-based investment decisions.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Particularly Excel

 

Essential qualifications:

  • 2:1 undergraduate degree in Economics or a related subject with a strong economic component (at least 50% of the degree must be in Economics).
