The role

You’ll sit alongside a passionate and talented multi-disciplinary experience design team, made up of user researchers, product designers, content designers and design operations, who are focused on creating the best digital experiences for Bupa’s customers in the UK.

Working in the experience design team, your primary focus is to shape and expand our design system, ‘Anatomy’, that supports and enhances our digital products and services.

You’ll work alongside a design system product owner and dedicated design system designers & developers to continuously improve component libraries, contribution models, documentation & guidelines and build advocacy across the organisation.

A key member of our design leadership team you will lead a group of Product Designers and provide mentorship and support to facilitate development, encourage growth and foster a culture of care and candour

What you’ll be doing

  • You’ll contribute and be hands on in the design system squad, helping build the elements of the system atomically, craft documentation and help develop a holistic strategy to evolve the design system.
  • Contribute to improving customer experience across products and services, using the design system as a catalyst for improved accessibility.
  • Provide visual direction and drive the standard for user interface design to help bring consistency to a complex, often unconnected, system of systems.
  • As a focal point for ‘Anatomy’, you’ll handle taking users and stakeholders on a journey so that the story of the design system is strong and understood.
  • Onboard new users and supply training to help new adopters understand how they can use the design system and contribute to the community.
  • Develop Qualitative attitudinal metrics focus on how users feel about the design system, based mainly on user feedback.
  • Document and share your research and insight to provide rationale for the teams’ design system decisions.
  • Lead playbacks, design crits and other community of practice sessions to showcase the squad’s work, enable constructive feedback and elevate the quality of the squad’s craft.
  • Help the team build out a rounded view of design systems to encompass more than just the components (documentation, tooling, governance, contribution, community, outcomes & metrics).
  • Advocate the adoption of the Design System across platforms and teams building a community of contribution and understanding.

You

  • You’re a product designer who’s passionate about design systems.
  • Excited about shaping a design system that is central to designing great customer experiences across multiple products and services.
  • A visual designer with a rich experience of user interface design who sets the standard for their peers and the organisation.
  • You’ve worked on large, complex design systems supporting communities of multiple disciplines.
  • Keen to dig in and use design systems as a mechanism to help transform a great healthcare organisation into a great digital one.
  • An established ‘design thinker’ with empathy for user needs, a willingness to explore ideas and implement a ‘test and learn’ approach before launch.
  • A great storyteller capable of influencing and encouraging stakeholders and peers to adopt and buy into something that was previously unfamiliar.
  • A systems thinker who solves problems in a human centred way.
  • Accustomed to working in an FCA regulated business is a bonus.
  • Highly skilled and knowledgeable across our design systems toolkit that includes Figma, Tokens Studio, Storybook and Zeroheight.
