Role Description

The purpose of this role is to contribute towards the delivery of Finance Operations objectives and Key Performance Indicators for Risk and Control through management of business touchpoints, ensuring risks are identified and understood, suitable controls are designed and are operating effectively. Supporting audit cycles for the FinOps teams from planning through to finalisation in line with agreed timescales whilst acting as a key contact between the Internal Audit Co-ordinating team and Auditors, ensuring delivery standards are met fulfilling audit requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the Finance Operations’ control transformation agenda, working collaboratively across divisions and with key stakeholders. This includes contributing towards the design and implementation of the department’s annual controls testing plan, along with providing meaningful feedback to enhance the controls position, including automation
  • Maintain the integrity of the risk and control framework, including ensuring controls are designed to best practice standards, operate effectively, facilitating / driving resolution of deficiencies, as well as providing ongoing support on the wider organisation’s control framework
  • Provide effective governance and support strategic initiatives, required to either remediate or proactively enhance control activities. This includes supporting the implementation and ongoing management of the Group’s new risk and control reporting tool
  • Track / monitor Finance Operations risk events and undertake root cause investigations where required
  • Ensuring risk and control documentation is in a fit-for-purpose state, assisting on the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures, for all risk activity
  • Validate and close control gaps and self-identified issues for teams within Finance Operations
  • Track & follow up on remediation of issues and findings raised by Internal Audit
  • Conducting controls testing and leading the process of remedial action planning when control deficiencies are identified
  • Support Finance Operations teams with interim and annual planning, testing and resolution of audit queries (internal & external)
  • Develop strong relationships with the Financial Controls Centre of Excellence to ensuring an understanding of their needs & requirements
  • Ensure operational resilience for Travel & Expenses by deputising for Finance Operations Services Lead where required
  • Provide support & mentorship to team members

Skills & Experience

  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills with ability to articulate finance information to non-finance individuals
  • Attention to detail whilst maintaining the ability to see the big picture
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and good knowledge of other office applications
  • Understanding of governance frameworks
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Operate effectively in a deadline driven, complex environment (interpersonal, negotiation, organisational, time management, decision making, planning & delivery)
  • Highly organised, self-starter and independent learner who takes the initiative to challenge the status quo
  • Compliance & risk management culture
  • Ability to work independently & collaboratively in a team
  • Able to demonstrate an audit or risk background, with a clear understanding of risk related concepts and controls within a Finance Operations function, particularly in relation to regulatory reporting.
  • Experience of delivering changes to systems or processes
  • High level of computer proficiency (good knowledge of MS Office suite – Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and process mapping tools)
  • Achieving challenging targets and KPIs in a high-pressure environment
  • Managing multiple priorities to strict deadlines
  • Working in or with a Finance Operations team
  • ACCA/CIMA/ACA qualified or part qualified
