Job purpose:
The Senior Air Traffic Controller (SATCO) based at St Athan, will be the senior NATS representative on site, and responsible to the General Manager (Cardiff, St Athan, Aberporth & Ranges) for the provision of operational procedures and practices to enable staff to provide the safe, effective, and efficient conduct of NATS Air Traffic Services at St Athan.
Other duties include:
- Accountable for safety performance at St Athan in line with targets and the NATS Safety Management System (SMS)
- Ensuring that all operational staff are qualified and competent to carry out tasks. Safety must be afforded the highest priority and safety management training provided where appropriate
- Ensuring ATC Procedures Safety Analysis (APSA) facilitators complete the NATS Hazard Analysis Course
- Co-ordinating and liaising with the aerodrome operator and adjacent Air Traffic Service Units (ATSUs) to develop operational procedures and practices
- Providing information and guidance to aircraft operators as the ATC SME
- Ensuring that St Athan MATS Part 2 and associated media (Supplementary Instructions (SIs) and Temporary Operating Instructions (TOIs)) are correctly prepared and that all regulatory and safety requirements are met
- Ensuring the operational implications of unserviceable equipment, Facility Interrupts (FIs) and Reduced Redundancies (RRs) are presented to the customer and the General Manager for comment/review and implemented in accordance with local procedures Monitoring and approving changes to ATC operational procedures (including those required as a result of an investigations, trials specification, safety survey or project) and ensuring the safety implications are fully considered, approved and addressed
- Ensuring that control staff are fully conversant with all current CAA regulations and procedures, and with those specific to the role of the ATC unit
- Ensuring flight safety recommendations applicable to ATC are implemented and suggestions from ATC staff to improve flight safety are brought to the notice of the General Manager
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Hold a CAA Licence with ADI ratings
- Extensive experience as an operational ATCO / Air Traffic Controller
- OJTI and assessor qualifications are desirable
- Experience in an ATC managerial appointment previously
