Job Purpose/Overview:
NATS is recruiting a System Engineer specialising in Networks (also known as Network Architect) to join our Service Delivery Network Design Engineering team based at Whiteley or Prestwick. Providing expert knowledge of a wide range of systems with an emphasis on Networking and communication systems.
Other duties include:
- Ensuring the design and subsequent development of Networking systems meets the needs of the work package as well as the expected integrity and reliability standards applicable in NATS
- Technical supervision of staff resources to achieve business objectives as set by the Work Package Manager
- Generation and elicitation of requirements; interface and test specifications necessary to procure, implement and accept the allocated system/sub-system.
- Delivery of in-service system engineering and related technical documentation.
- Maintain an awareness of technical developments that may affect the system or area of work for which the job holder is responsible and plan for their impact.
- Provide technical recommendations on suppliers as part of the bidding and tender evaluation process.
Essential skills and experience:
- You are expected to hold, as a minimum, an HNC (NVQ level 4) (or an equivalent qualification) in an Engineering related discipline and have relevant engineering experience.
- Extensive networking experience in designing, implementing and testing complex datacomms networks.
- Experience in multi vendors preferred (Cisco/HP/Aurba/Juniper/Fortigate/Palo/Checkpoint)
- Knowledge of major routing protocols & Deep Packet Inspection is an advantage.
- Industry certification related to this role is desirable, such as Cisco CCNA & CCNP
- Knowledge of:
- Network Management Systems e.g., SolarWinds and the associated client/server infrastructure
- VMWARE 6.5/7.0
- Windows 2003+ servers
- Testing procedures and report writing
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of networks and with a keen interest in new and emerging technologies/protocols/trends and industry best practices.
- Relevant experience of high-integrity real-time systems within large scale, multi-disciplined projects and practical experience of systems engineering testing and integration.
- Proven ability to communicate in a clear and precise manner, and be able to work proactively, within a defined framework, with a minimum of direct supervision. An initiative-taking approach is essential.
