Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Airports Engineering and Programmes, the Section Head – Navigational Aids and Meteorological Systems (Nav & Met) provides leadership and direction to their team, ensuring that an effective System Design Authority (SDA) function is provided
The role is responsible for managing the Nav & Met team, defining the engineering requirements and delivery of all Nav & Met projects to time, cost and quality including resource management of the team
Duties Include
- Provide clear leadership across the Nav & Met Systems team to inspire people to raise their contribution, raising management capability and managing team and individual performance
- Within the domain establish and maintain the design of Nav & Met System services and assets such that they meet NATS requirements
- Establish and maintain the systematic and co-ordinated set of activities and practices through which the Nav & Met team optimally manage the system assets and Service provided over their lifecycle
- Establish and maintain the design for engineered system services/ assets such that they meet NATS requirements
- Effectively communicate both formally and informally, the Nav & Met and wider engineering vision.
- Lead the improvement of the system service design & support function in terms of people, processes, delivery and tools
- Ensure the optimisation of costs through undertaking reviews and taking appropriate action to ensure delivery of targets
- As Nav & MET Systems Design Authority (SDA) ensure the latest applicable international and national regulations are known, monitored, planned, impact assessed and applied as required
Qualifications/Skills
- Qualified to Degree level (or equivalent) in related engineering discipline, with a demonstrated effective ability to carry out management and engineering work to this level
- Chartered Engineer status, or the capability to achieve such a status, is desirable
- Able to demonstrate strong leadership with extensive experience in a management role
- Knowledge of Systems, together with a detailed understanding of how these systems are used
- The job holder shall be able to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships with a wide range of contacts both inside and outside NATS
- Required to understand the commercial aspects of providing technical solutions to external customers
