About us

Changing Lives began in 1970, when four people set up Tyneside Cyrenians, offering food and shelter to people experiencing homelessness in the North East. Since then, services have grown and developed to support people experiencing a wide range of personal challenges, including addiction and recovery programmes, employment guidance, help for people in prison or on probation, and support for people experiencing sexual exploitation or domestic abuse.

Today our charity employs over 600 staff, has 400 volunteers and operates from Berwick to London giving people hope and aspiration that their lives can change. We listen carefully to the experiences of people with lived experience and 20% of staff at Changing Lives have previously used services.

At Changing Lives, we believe that everyone deserves a safe home, a rewarding job and a life free from addiction or abuse. We also believe that, given the right support, anyone can change their life for the better. By focusing on their strengths, potential and opportunities, we help over 14,000 people overcome their problems and live safe, successful, independent lives each year.

We’re looking for committed and compassionate professionals who share our enthusiasm for changing lives.

About the job

In the North East Changing Lives have been providing gender specific services to women involved in the Criminal Justice System for 12 years.

Women become involved in the Criminal Justice System for a complex range of reasons. In our gender specific services we provide holistic support to women by women, providing one-stop-shop models of interventions via Community Hubs to help women to overcome challenges and address needs, enabling them to successfully move-on from services and live fulfilling, crime free flourishing lives.

Our Criminal Justice provision for Women is an inclusive and supportive programme driven to achieve the best for the communities we work in. The programme of Giving Back will provide benefit to local communities and participants. The post holders will develop relationships with local community organisations, volunteer development agencies, and local business to develop a creative and innovative programme. We are looking for candidates who can use their initiative and creativity to work with people and organisations in an empowering way.  They will work with CL network of Experts by Experience, participants with lived experience of challenging circumstances, including involvement in the criminal justice system, to build the strategy and programme. The post holders will also deliver bespoke training and support to women, motivating and encouraging their progression and support the wider work of colleagues and partners.

At Changing Lives we value a diverse workforce and are keen to recruit people of all ages and from all backgrounds, abilities and ethnicities.

A flexible approach must be adopted at all times and the ability to cover a range of tasks is essential.  These roles are agile working which will include being office based, delivering within community venues and with the possibility of some home working, therefore you will need to be able to  work effectively independently, and as a virtual team, under pressure to meet challenging deadlines.
