Reporting to the Head of Corporate Sustainability, you will manage a small team of Sustainability and Environmental managers. You will be responsible for overseeing the Environmental Management System.
You will have significant input into the key environmental strategy of the DVLA, developing and monitoring programmes and policies that promote sustainability. You will produce and deliver reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders. Stakeholders will ask you to substantiate your recommendations and targets and so you must have a comprehensive understanding of finer details as well as the overall strategy.

Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
- Develop and review strategy, policies and guidance for sustainability and environmental objectives to drive positive change through the agency.
- Champion sustainability and environmental consideration as a key element of all estate and operational decision making and strategy.
- Provide specialist advice on sustainability and environmental matters to Head of Sustainability, senior managers, line managers, staff and external stakeholders.
- Manage and maintain the Environment Management System to ensure DVLA retains certification to ISO14001.

Person specification
To be successful in this role, you will have a degree in an environmental discipline, or substantial experience in the field. You will also hold professional membership of an environmental body.
You have a passion for the environment and sustainability, and significant knowledge of environment management systems. You are able to see the big picture, and can demonstrate experience of driving change and implementing continuous improvement initiatives while understanding how daily activities contribute to the wider strategy.
You are a strong leader with experience of managing and motivating an environmental and sustainability team. You encourage people to reach their individual potential, and promote collaborative working to achieve success as a team.
You are an articulate communicator , verbally and in writing, and can present your work in a variety of formats. You have excellent interpersonal skills, enabling you to build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You remain confident under scrutiny, as you ensure that you have an in-depth understanding of the subject on which you are presenting, and proactively prepare to be challenged and questioned.
