You’ll get to work within one of our agile Cloud teams that are using modern and exciting technologies and currently rebuilding Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s (DVLA’s) services leveraging a cloud-first approach using AWS and Azure technologies. You will have responsibility for Cloud FinOps capability in the organisation to support the business growth in this area, working with multiple teams within Cloud and the wider organisation.

Working in Cloud Operations, you’ll get to work across a wide range of systems and environments, using your technical skills for financial modelling, forecasting and budget management. You will have an understanding of infrastructure components and AWS / Azure cloud platforms. You will also build relationships and liaise with multiple areas in DVLA such as Commercial teams, Product Owners and 3rd Party suppliers.

As a Cloud team, we’re responsible for designing, building, and operating cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or Azure and within Cloud Operations we focus on managing costs, ensuring financial optimisation, monitoring and analysing cloud spending, reviewing new offerings, generating reports / insights.

Responsibilities 

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Providing specialist technical support and assistance to projects, ensuring delivery of non-functional requirements and continual service improvement
  • Being responsible for preparations and support of IT operations solutions and services – physical or virtual – according to industry and organisational best practices, standards, service requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) throughout the product life cycle
  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members
  • Assisting in the provision of first-class services and consistent levels of capability, as required by the organisation
  • Identifying and owning issues and risks associated with work
  • Diagnosing and prioritising complex incidents, investigating their causes and finding resolutions
  • Analysing and assessing impact, and developing and documenting change requests

Person specification

  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), financial modelling, and understanding of infrastructure components
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, present financial insights, and drive cost optimisation initiatives
  • Understanding of financial concepts, budget management, and cost forecasting
  • Ability to adapt to evolving cloud technologies and industry best practices

If you do not already hold Certifications in cloud platforms and FinOps (e.g. AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, FinOps Certified Practitioner), then you must be willing to work towards these once in role.
