Job description

As a Project Manager/Officer, you will be responsible for supporting and managing the delivery of programmes, projects and work streams. You may lead low-risk/low-complexity projects yourself, or form part of a wider team supporting the delivery of larger projects or programmes. Whilst within this role you will be dealing with change management and the delivery of programmes and projects, a defining aspect of this role is project delivery, so we would like you to bring your knowledge of running a project to the team.

You will be responsible for the provision of support and guidance for change initiatives within a programme environment. You will provide support on processes, procedures, tools and techniques to portfolio, programme and project managers and their teams.

Working within multi-disciplinary, matrix-managed teams, delivering digital, technology and business change projects, you will use detailed planning and collaborative working to help create the right work environment for teams to deliver and achieve successful business outcomes.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Implementing and maintaining appropriate systems to enable effective planning and scheduling.
  • Establishing and maintaining project controls, keeping the project manager aware of the project status. Preparing project performance reports, presenting statistics and researching new information.
  • Ensuring organisational tasks are carried out efficiently. Managing and monitoring compliance of the project with Departmental Security, Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity, Business Continuity and Business Planning.
  • Leading a team responsible for identifying, developing, and deploying resources. Managing workforce planning, providing information for effective decision making to the Project Manager. Procurement of supplies and services related to project support within Delegated Financial Authority limits.
  • Managing professional relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and acting as lead point of contact for some external parties. Drafting and signing-off correspondence.

For further information about the role please see the attached role profile.

Additional information

Applications will be accepted from full time/part time/job sharers. Full time roles at DVLA consist of 37 hours per week. Part time and/or flexible working may also be available subject to the needs of the business. To contact the vacancy holder, please use the job contact details listed under ‘Contact point for applicants’.

This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.

Therefore, the expectation is that you will spend a minimum of 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace (DVLA). We would encourage you to discuss the working arrangements for this role with us during the recruitment process.

Person specification

To thrive in this role you will have exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate, influence and challenge across all levels. You are a highly resilient person who handles change well and naturally adapts to changing workloads and environments.

You have experience balancing priorities and dealing with ambiguity, and enjoy having autonomy in your role, taking the lead organising and prioritising tasks, being a confident, efficient and an independent thinker.

You enjoy managing a varied and challenging workload; having the capability and confidence to not only provide project support for large scale projects but to also take the lead on smaller projects.

We strive to ensure that DVLA is a great place to work where everybody can be their true self, be treated with dignity and respect, and according to their individual needs. We have a number of staff network groups run by staff to support their colleagues.
