Policy Advisor – Road Vehicle Co2 Emissions Regulations 32 views

Job Expired

The Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Regulations team is part of the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) Directorate which sits across the Department for Transport and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, leading on essential strategy, policy and regulatory frameworks to deliver the transition to ZEVs.

In January 2024, the ZEV mandate was introduced into domestic law. The legislation requires that fewer new non-zero emission cars and vans are sold in Great Britain, on the pathway towards phasing out all new non-zero emission cars and vans by 2035. The OZEV Directorate has teams working to support across all parts of this transition including vehicle regulation, charging infrastructure and consumer experience.

The successful candidate would oversee and maintain these assimilated laws, alongside colleagues from the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), an executive agency of DfT responsible for the day-to-day administration of the regulations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to

  • Lead policy work to effectively deliver existing CO2 emissions standards and regulations for cars, vans and heavy-duty vehicles. Lead development of legislation to amend existing CO2 emission regulations, working closely with lawyers, parliamentary teams and Ministers.
  • Lead an effective working relationship with the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA).
  • Lead work on assimilated EU law within the decarbonisation policy area. This will involve working with policy leads across the Directorate to consolidate our approach.
  • Engage stakeholders across DfT, other Government Departments and industry including organising workshops and fielding queries on the existing CO2 emissions regulations. Lead the drafting of briefing, correspondence, parliamentary questions, and other materials, as required.
  • Additionally, there is an expectation that members of the team will be flexible and prepared to work across the range of areas that ZEV Regulations team covers, particularly in the longer-term as work and priorities evolve.
