Job description

This is an exciting time to join the DVSA and an opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role as it continues to modernise and transform, ensuring it continues to provide excellent services to our nation.

These roles will lead the delivery teams for two key services: Enforcement and Vehicle (one role for each).

You will be accountable and responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of all the services across England, Scotland, and Wales. This includes resource planning; monitoring and reporting on quality and performance targets; highlighting issues and developing actions for resolution of issues impacting upon performance.

You will advise the Service Director on overall performance of the service and provide ideas and feedback for Service Improvement from both colleague and customer perspectives of the delivery activities.

People leadership is at the core of the role, and you will model the Civil Service values, leadership statements and DVSA cultural aspirations. You will inspire your operational delivery teams to be their best and deliver excellent services to our customers. You will lead inclusively and actively recognise and reward excellence in your teams, whilst challenging behaviours that do not meet DVSA expectations.

Responsible for quality, you will ensure standards are met and actions are undertaken to resolve issues identified, for example through education or learning and development of colleagues and customers.

You will oversee the national performance against targets and plan, ensuring all resources are efficiently and effectively deployed.

As the key customer link for delivery activities, you will manage relationships with customer and stakeholder groups, understand customers’ needs and expectations and ensure customer complaints are resolved.

You will be a key member of the service leadership team, providing the colleague and customer voice into all aspects of continuous improvement and transformation.

As a Corporate Senior Leader you will provide leadership in terms of culture, business priorities and Civil Service values, always recognising the corporate priorities above individual service targets.  As a member of the Operations Delivery profession, you will deliver DVSA’s vision, and develop your people to have the right skills to deliver.

For a full list of responsibilities, please refer to the attached Candidate Pack.

Person specification

As a confident and collaborative delivery professional, you will have large scale operational leadership experience in a fast-paced environment and a successful track record of leading through structural and cultural change.

You will be responsible for large-scale regional teams and will have the ability to influence others and articulate rationale to gain agreement.

You proactively create and maintain positive and trusting relationships with a range of people within and outside your organisation. You can easily identify connections and reach out to bring people together.
