No two days are the same for our Marine Surveyors. You could be reviewing drawings for a new fishing vessel one day then carrying out complex damage stability calculations for a passenger ship the next.

Within this role, you will be responsible for helping  the MCA’s Statutory Services Delivery Team achieve its agreed MCA Business Plan activities and objectives. This includes reviewing ship stability information and vessel drawings to confirm compliance with UK and international requirements.

Some of the typical responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:

  • Examining and assessing intact and damage stability information for ships to ensure that they meet UK, and international safety, and anti-pollution regulations, where qualified and eligible to do so.
  • Examining and assessing vessel construction plans and structural information for compliance with the requirements of MCA construction standards, where qualified and eligible to do so.
  • Contributing to the provision and delivery of first-class Statutory Services to both internal and external customers. Working with the Technical Manager, Principal Marine Surveyor (Stability & Plan Approval), and Business Manager to provide a customer service experience that both meets and manages expectations; helping to deliver a regulatory climate that is clear, consistent and supportive of UK maritime industries.

Person specification

About You

To be successful, you will be an experienced Maritime Professional with a degree in Naval Architecture and a have good understanding of the fundamentals of ship stability and plan approval.

You will have proven customer service skills and can make quick, effective decisions, that are always focused on achieving the best outcomes. You will be resilient, flexible and able to manage a varied workload with competing priorities. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively build relationships with a variety of stakeholders across different cultures and industries, and communicate complex, technical information in a clear and concise way. You will have a keen eye for detail and approach your work in a methodical manner, whilst also bringing innovation to the role. If this sounds like you, then please apply.
