Job description

The successful role holder will provide leadership to a nationally dispersed and skilled team ensuring a wide range of learning products are delivered in alignment with Learning & Development (L&D) standards, policy, Quality Assurance (QA) processes as well as corporate and regulatory requirements.

Promoting a one team approach to the delivery of learning and providing interventions through coaching, standards, QA and development of training specialists, creating and maintaining a positive and nurturing environment for the benefit of all attending and carrying out training.

Ensuring all aspects of the delivery including the continuous improvement of the delivery and the quality of the service to ensure they meet customer, stakeholder and DVSA’s needs. This will include ensuring that all training specialists are continually developed, and skill maintained through coaching.

The role holder will contribute to the evaluation of service delivery to ensure that all aspects of the service are working as efficiently and effectively as possible.

An essential member of the L&D leadership team to develop, continuously improve, communicate and embed the L&D strategy in alignment with the People Directorate strategy to create clarity for customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Creating and maintaining a positive and nurturing learning environment for the benefit of the delegate’s learning experience in order to realise their full potential.
  • Providing team leadership including delivery of line management responsibilities in line with DVSA policies and Civil Service values.
  • Using appropriate coaching methodologies to continuously develop the required skills and capabilities for all trainers.
  • Maintaining and developing knowledge and experience of changing frontline management policies and procedures.
  • Collaborating with L&D colleagues to establish customer needs in order to influence fit for purpose learning solutions in alignment with civil service learning strategies.

Person specification

To thrive in this role, you have exceptional customer service skills and are passionate about providing a great service. You have experience of stakeholder engagement and are confident in building solid working relationships at all levels. We encourage you to apply if you have previous experience in leading and developing others and can successfully manage a team.

You have experience of planning and scheduling and can successfully manage your time, with the ability to prioritise your workload.

If not already held there will be a development opportunity to work towards one of the following when in post.

CIPD or an equivalent L&D qualification.

Additional Information

This role can be based in Avonmouth, Chadderton or Glasgow (Bishopbriggs), your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this.

Please note that if selecting Glasgow as the preferred location, this role will be based in Bishopbriggs.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.

This role will require the successful applicant to travel occasionally, including overnight stays.
