Role Overview

The lead respiratory physiologist will have a senior role in a rapidly growing Respiratory Department based in the  Clinical  Investigation  Centre  (CIC)  at  the  Cromwell  Hospital.  The  new  team  member  is expected  to  support  the  service  manager  in  the  daily  running  of  the  Lung  Centre.  Focussing  predominantly  on  complex  respiratory  diagnostics  and  will play a large role in training staff within the team in complex and respiratory diagnostics and physiology.

This  is  a  great  opportunity  for  someone  with  a  flair  for  teaching,  assertiveness, and  an  eye  for  detail  in  all  Laboratory  related  routines,  technical  and  non-technical, particularly those that are part of the Quality Assurance (QA) plan in place.

What you’ll do

Experience in the following tests is essential:

  • Respiratory Services

  • Complex Respiratory Testing

  • Sleep and Ventilation Services (Desirable)

  • To have an active role in completing the interpretation of all conventional and complex respiratory diagnostics within the service provision

  • To support in the delivery and oversight of a Quality Assurance (QA) Plan for Respiratory

  • To have a leading role in the implementation and development of an audit plan to become part of the Quality Assurance routines in place.

  • To be responsible for regular stock checks and stock control of all items required to carry out the daily tasks and diagnostic tests within service provision.

  • To ensure compliance to standards in respect of all legislative requirements, including but not limited to CQC, SHE, DSE, Fire, COSHH, BLS, Manual Handling, Safeguarding Children & Adults, Information Security and Infection Control.

  • Work closely, as part of a team, with all stakeholders (Consultants, Nursing, Physiotherapists, equipment specialists/engineers, allied health professionals and patient representatives) to improve service delivery and standards of care.

What you’ll bring

  • You’ll have BSc in Clinical Physiology/ Healthcare Science and current ILS certification.

  • Competency in an array of conventional Lung Function tests.

  • Competency and ability to work unsupervised in complex respiratory diagnostic tests.

  • Ability to perform, monitor and analyse ECG data.

  • Ability to carry out Exercise Testing (CPET).

  • Experience in a supervisory and mentoring role for less senior staff.

  • High level of technical and operational knowledge within a Lung Laboratory.

  • Ability to plan, carry out and act on audit within remit of Lung Laboratory.
