The Cromwell Hospital is working towards providing Cardiac Diagnostic Services 8am to 8pm during business days. Therefore, there will be a requirement to work through flexible work swifts. This will entail some weekend working as part of your normal working week, which will be properly salaried. There is also requirement for participation in an out-of-hours on-call Echo service.
About The Role
The Lead Clinical Cardiac Physiologist for Complex Diagnostics is deputy to the Head of Cardiac Services, and will manage on a day to day needs of the non-evasive department.  You’ll also support the specialised consultant body, with service delivery and resources within a MDT department, as well as manage the day-to-day performance of line reporting.

As the Lead Clinical Cardiac Physiologist in Complex Diagnostics, you’ll have a specialised background in Echocardiology. You will perform a range of highly specialised cardiac ultrasound investigations, including adult transthoracic, contrast (for left ventricular opacification) and bubble study echocardiograms, 3D echocardiograms, dobutamine stress echocardiograms, assisting with transoesophageal echocardiograms, performing accurate and reproducible measurements and quantification, interpret findings and independently issue final clinically diagnostic reports to a competent, highly specialised professional standard.

As part of our service expansion, in addition you should have experience in Non-Invasive Cardiac Physiology Diagnostics.
You should be an independent practitioner, able to perform and report resting transthoracic scans and rhythm analysis to permanent (CRM), temporary (Holter), rest (ECG) and exercise (ETT) modalities.
Duties And Responsibilities:
  • You’ll undertake echocardiographic investigations including adult, contrast (for left ventricular opacification) echocardiograms, bubble studies echocardiograms, dobutamine echocardiograms and assist with transoesophageal echocardiograms utilising a range of techniques including pulsed and continuous wave Doppler, colour flow mapping and tissue Doppler imaging.
  • Recognise the significance of investigative findings and act on them accordingly, to prioritise the performance of echocardiographic investigations according to clinical need and provide professional guidance in echocardiographic matters when appropriate.
  • To perform and interpret 12 lead ECG’s; Fit, removal and analysis of 24 hour Holter/BP monitors; To perform and interpret Exercise Treadmill Tests, both technically and medically led.
  • You’ll lead on quality assurance in attaining clinical governance standards for Cardiac Physiology, Manages Cardiac Physiology audit programmes, providing monthly data as requested by the Head of Cardiac Services and internal and external governance bodies.
  • To be able to assist in Syncope assessment including the following tests: Tilt Table Testing, Autonomic Function Testing, Signal Average ECG
  • Performed CRM Device interrogations in clinic, inpatients or in a pre-assessment setting
  • Assist in maintaining an ordered filing and retrieval system and electronic computer database of patients’ recordings, measurements, reports and attendance details and helping to provide the necessary statistical returns of activity etc.
  • Help with the maintenance of consumable stocks and replenishment of the same as necessary, working within the department’s budgetary and logistic constraints.
  • You’ll have supervisory and training responsibilities for trainee Echocardiographers.
What You’ll Bring
  • BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology or BSc in Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology) or PTP equivalence
  • (BSE)Transthoracic (TTE) Level 2 accreditation by the British Society of Echocardiography or Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography Certification by the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI)
  • Knowledge and experience of advanced and highly specialised procedures acquired through accredited courses.
  • Able to perform a range of specialist diagnostic investigations on patients in a variety of clinical settings.
  • Evidence of maintaining relevant Continuing Professional Development ILS – Immediate Life Support Course
  • Being fully competent at ECG recording and interpretation, exercise ECG stress testing and ambulatory ECG monitoring
  • Trained and accredited under the auspices of the Resuscitation Council (UK)
