FOR NORTHUMBRIA MAPPA AREA STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT BOARD
Are you interested in protecting the community in which you reside? If so, then this may be the opportunity you were looking for.
MAPPA (Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements) is the mechanism which brings criminal justice and duty to cooperate agencies together to manage offenders convicted of violent or sexual offences. MAPPA agencies work with those who pose the highest risk of serious harm in an agreed and coordinated way to protect those at risk and to reintegrate offenders into their communities.
The Northumbria area Strategic Management Board (SMB) has one Lay Adviser vacancy for residents of the Northumbria Police force area.
You will make direct contributions to public protection within Northumbria whilst gaining experience of multi-agency working at an operational and strategic level. The role is voluntary, 16 hrs per month max, for a term of 3 or 4 years.
Lay Advisers attend the SMB meetings in their area, and undertake training in order to
understand and contribute to those meetings.
You will not be expected to become an expert but act as an informed observer and ask questions which professionals involved in the work of MAPPA may not think of asking.
Training will be provided, and expenses met. If you are already involved with the management of MAPPA offenders, you may not be eligible to apply as it is a ‘lay’ voice that is required.
Short-listing and interviews for the role will be confirmed at a later date. For further information you are invited to contact:
MAPPA Coordinator Charlotte Marsh Charlotte.Marsh@justice.gov.uk for further information and/or an application pack.
