Harrow:
This is an exciting time to join London Borough of Harrow. Situated to the North West of London, we’re the 12th largest London Borough geographically (circa 20 square miles) with a population of approximately a quarter of a million residents.
With one of the most diverse populations in the country, on the outskirts of London and with excellent transport connections as well as extensive parks and green belt, and with schools that are almost exclusively “Good” and “Outstanding” Harrow is where you can build a rewarding career and an enjoyable life. Following the recent announcement of our long standing Director of Education’s intention to retire, we are now seeking a new professional to lead our services and deliver our ambitious plans.
The Position:
Reporting to the Strategic Director of Children’s Services, you will oversee all education services in Harrow, including the commissioning of both statutory and non-statutory services.
As a key member of the Children’s Services Leadership Team, Corporate Leadership Team (CLT), and Education Service Management Team, you will collaborate with the council’s Leader, Chief Executive, and Strategic Directors. You will provide guidance on all reforms and responses to national government agendas impacting Education services within the Children’s Services Directorate.
Building on strong foundations that include excellent relationships with early years settings, schools and local colleges, including our local high-quality special education provision, and leading a well-established team. Initial objectives will include:
- Reviewing the council’s SEND transport arrangements.
- Improving the timeliness of EHCPs.
- Preparing for an upcoming SEND inspection.
- Wraparound programme in early years.
- Promoting a self-improving school system.
- Implement new attendance guidelines and provide strategic leadership for alternative provision.
In the longer term, you will have the opportunity to optimise the service structure, ensure a consistently robust relationship between safeguarding and education, and oversee the construction and opening of Harrow’s first new special school in 20 years.
Candidates:
This role calls for an education professional (e.g. such as a head teacher, or school improvement / SEND leader) with an understanding of how to deliver improvements for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
