Deputy Politics Editor – Digital (Mirror) 20 views

Job Expired

The Mirror is looking for an outstanding journalist to join our integrated politics team. We’re looking for someone who loves leading a team, thrives in a fast-paced environment and lives for the thrill of breaking news and landing brilliant exclusives. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team working across print and digital.

So, who are we?

You might not have heard of us but we have probably met without you even realising it. We are home to the UK and Ireland’s most iconic digital platforms, magazines and newspapers. From the Mirror, Daily Express and OK!, to our regional titles such as the Liverpool Echo, BirminghamLive and the Manchester Evening News (plus lots more), our brands and the stories we cover are as varied as our people. We help all kinds of people share experiences through our stories because we believe this is what makes us human. Oh, and we should probably also mention that with a monthly readership of 47 million people, Reach is the largest commercial publisher in the UK. At Reach, not only will you feel better understood, you will also feel you understand other people better too.

What will the role involve?

The successful candidate will know how to lead from the front and bring a team together to get the most out of each part. In addition to strong managerial skills, we need someone who is a first-rate journalist and as adept at turning around rapid-fire digital copy that hits our audience sweet-stop as they are landing a front-page scoop. All roles within the politics team are cross-platform and this one is no different. You’ll need to be comfortable with the demands of digital and print – often both at the same time!

Who are we looking for?

You will be a qualified and experienced journalist, possessing at least 18 months experience at a national or major regional title, ideally covering politics and with newsdesk experience. We want someone who is passionate and wants to tell great stories that will resonate with our audience.

You must have sound legal knowledge, with first class editing, writing and subbing skills. You will relish the daily challenge of working under pressure and to tight deadlines. Any journalist will understand the requirement of flexibility, and this role will involve days, nights and weekends. You will be social media savvy with, ideally, digital publishing experience of SEO, content management systems and story analytics.
