About the role
As Business Support Officer, you will provide dedicated administrative support nationally and across HM Coastguard, helping to ensure best practice and consistency by working closely with colleagues across MCA and HQ HMCG.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Actively engage with Business Support Managers, the Business Support Lead, the Head of the Business Unit, team colleagues, HQ Estates and HMCG HQ colleagues to help deliver seamless administrative support.
- Process Coastguard Volunteers personnel data and approve Coastguard Volunteers’ remuneration claims accurately and in line with payroll deadlines.
- Support Coastguard Volunteers in the claims process, including helping to resolve rejected claims and promoting best practice and consistency across Coastguard Divisions.
- Provide a procurement service, ensuring invoices are entered into the shared services system accurately and timeously, in line with Finance and Governance guidance.

About you
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Experience with IT including Microsoft Word and Excel – demonstratable experience with a range of administrative software applications.
- Experience of working to deadlines – Ability to work under pressure, deliver to tight/strict deadlines whilst working flexibly on concurrent tasks.
- The ability to communicate with staff at various levels – confident ability to communicate with staff at various levels (written and verbal).
- A basic understanding of invoice processing / finance – willingness to learn if no previous experience.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
