Clinical Fellow – Robotic and Endometriosis Surgical Fellow

Salary: £70,000 a year – Full Time Equivalent

Part-time: 16 hours a week (or 2 days a week)

We are seeking a Clinical Fellow in our Women’s Health Division at Cromwell Hospital, which is home to world renowned private robotic gynaecological surgery.

The post offers comprehensive exposure to complex benign robotic gynaecological surgery, including procedures for endometriosis, fibroids, adhesions, and other advanced pelvic pathologies. The fellow will receive a wide exposure to benign robotic surgery and complex endometriosis pathways.

The fellow will receive structured training in robotic console skills, participate in theatre lists as first assistant and console surgeon under supervision, and engage in ongoing clinical research and educational activities.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Participate in robotic gynaecological theatre sessions as first assistant.
  • Undertake pre-operative assessment, surgical planning, and post-operative review of patients within the robotic programme.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary case discussions with urology, colorectal, anaesthetic, and theatre teams.
  • Support patient care through attendance at outpatient clinics and peri-operative reviews.

Training and Education

  • Complete mandatory robotic console and simulator training within the first two months of appointment.
  • Maintain an operative logbook and reflective learning portfolio.
  • Participate in weekly teaching sessions, theatre debriefs, and surgical video review meetings.
  • Contribute to departmental teaching for trainees, theatre staff, and visiting surgeons.

Research and Audit

  • Contribute to ongoing research and quality-improvement projects in robotic and endometriosis surgery.
  • Prepare abstracts, posters, and oral presentations for national and international meetings in collaboration with Consultant Gynaecologist and the Director of Research and Innovation.
  • Participate in audit and data collection for robotic outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Governance and Professionalism

  • Adhere to Cromwell Hospital’s governance, safety, and infection-control policies.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct in line with GMC and hospital values.
  • Support service development and efficiency initiatives within the robotic programme.

Training Structure

  • Robotic simulation, console orientation, and team integration. First-assistant role progressing to supervised console surgery (hysterectomy, myomectomy, excision).
  • Participate in ongoing endometriosis research, data collections
  • Console participation in complex cases, research presentation, and potential teaching involvement.
  • Participate in national and international meetings

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Degree in Medicine MBBS or equivalent
  • Full Registration with GMC
  • Trained in medicine to core surgical trainee level or higher
  • Up to date ALS certificate

Desirable

  • Other specialist experience e.g. ATLS
  • Database literate with knowledge of statistics
  • Evidence of research publications, awards, posters presentations
