JOB PURPOSE:

 

UK Power Networks Services require an experienced Alliance Manager for the development of Partnerships and Strategic Alliances. The purpose of the role is to:

 

  • Lead the identification of Partners and Strategic Alliances, where UKPN Services’ probability of successfully securing and delivering work is enhanced, through the establishment of a Partnership or Strategic Alliance.
  • Manage the negotiations to establish Strategic Alliances and Partnerships within an appropriate commercial framework: establishing clear scopes of work, risk share, rates of return, liabilities share, organisational structures and governance.
  • Lead the on-going day-to-day management of Strategic Alliances.
  • Accountable for ensuring that UKPN Services retains its ISO44001 ‘Collaborative business relationship management system’ accreditation.

 

The Alliance Manager will work under the instruction of the Head of Markets and will interface with the various stakeholders as required.

 

The role will be office based at our headquarters in Newington House, Elephant and Castle, you may be required to work late on occasions to ensure deadlines for submissions are met.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the identification of Strategic Alliances (which span multiple opportunities), in collaboration with the Head of Markets, where UK Power Networks Services’ probability of successfully securing and delivering work in a market segment is enhanced by being in a Strategic Alliance.
  • Lead the identification of Partners (for individual opportunities), in collaboration with Client Relationship Managers, where UK Power Networks Services’ probability of successfully securing and delivering work is enhanced, through the establishment of a Partnership.
  • Manage the negotiations to establish Strategic Alliances and Partnerships within an appropriate commercial framework: establishing clear scopes of work, risk share, rates of return, liabilities share, organisational structures and governance.
  • In established Strategic Alliances (Partnerships being managed by a Client Delivery Manager), which will span between 3-5 years and will facilitate multi-million pound order intake,  the Alliance Manager shall:
    • Identify companies that allows a business to get competitive advantage through access to a partner’s resources, including markets, technologies, capital and people.
    • Lead a joint business development planning process to mutual performance objectives, targets, and critical milestones.
    • Day to day identify the key drivers of value and risk, ensuring that those involved do not lose focus on strategic aspects and lead efforts to mitigate risk and accelerate value creation.
    • Establish and maintain a Sales Pipeline of Opportunities which a Strategic Alliance shall pursue.
    • Support the Client Relationship Managers in the preparation of the Blue Sheets for Opportunities that a Strategic Alliance will pursue.
    • Build a ‘brand’ identity for a Strategic Alliance, in order that the market understand the ‘value add’ delivered, one which complements, but does not dilute that of the participants.
    • Manage Strategic Alliance obligations, advising participants on how they should be implement, if necessary, negotiating interpretations.
    • Establish and ensure smooth operation of the Strategic Alliance ground rules, such as formal governance meetings and procedures for decision making, team meetings, data exchange, KPIs and other interactions.
    • Lead efforts to increase alignment, mutual understanding and trust.
    • Working with the Client Relationship Managers looking for win-win opportunities to extend the relationship by expanding the existing partnership or creating spin-off collaborations.
    • Ensure that the principles of ISO44001 are adopted and followed, to build demonstrable evidence of adherence to the standard.

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

 

The Alliance Management function within UKPN Services is managed by the Head of Markets who reports to the Director of UKPN Services.

 

The individual will a strong people manager and should be able to effectively lead teams without direct line responsibility to achieve establish robust Strategic Alliances and Partnerships.

 

The individual will need to be self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision. They must be a good communicator with excellent inter-personal skills and must represent UK Power Network Services’ best company values with both internal and external stakeholders.  They will also need to have good relationship skills and the ability to make a positive contribution to the successful delivery of targets.

 

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEREINCE:

Skills:

  • A subject matter expert in the formulation of collaborative business relationships.
  • Demonstrable skills in strategic analysis and deployment.
  • Proven abilities to establish complex commercial arrangements.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to challenging deadlines.
  • Strong people management and commercial skills.
  • Sound understanding of P&L and risk management skills.
  • Strong project management / time management / prioritisation skills.
  • Must be an excellent communicator.
  • Strong written English language skills and wide vocabulary.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working at ‘C’ suite level, both in partner organisations and within UK Power Networks.

 

Qualification:

  • Typically degree or equivalent educated, in a business orientated subject.
  • Ideally possess a Masters degree with a strong business emphasis.

 

Experience:

  • Proven capability in identifying and establishing Partnerships and Strategic Alliances.
  • A strong background in commercial management.
  • Must be able to provide input into opportunity qualification, win strategies, commercial discussions and solution design.
  • Have proven ability to manage complex, multi-work stream opportunities.
  • Solid understanding and implementation of internal governance procedures.

 

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
