Role Description
We have a great position that has recently become available in our Finance team for a Student Actuary.
We are looking for an ambitious, collaborative and enthusiastic candidate who is looking to continue on to the next step of their Actuarial career.
Your role will focus on quarterly reserving, business planning and aspects of capital modelling, as well as general business analyses. The role will require collaborative interaction with the wider Actuarial Team, other teams within Finance and Technical and Underwriting and Claims.
The role will also require some emphasis on simplification of processes through automation and coding, with opportunities to work with our Actuarial Transformation team, developing and supporting our capability for transforming our Actuarial processes across our data, methodologies, assumptions, results output and monitoring. You will have the opportunity to explore how analytic tools can help the Actuarial team and the wider business through increased efficiency and added insight.
The role is hybrid between working from home and in the office and can be based either in our Guildford or our London office, though some travel will be required between the two.
Key Responsibilities
- Production, monitoring and communication of quarterly reserves on an IFRS4 and IFRS17 basis, including regular collaboration with the underwriting and claims managers.
- Setting the bar for simplification of existing processes and development of the department’s technical capabilities.
- Portfolio segmentation and business steerage.
- Actuarial input into the annual business planning process.
- Input into the insurance risk parameterisation process.
Skills & Experience
- Student of Institute of Actuaries or equivalent with General Insurance Experience.
- A strong academic record, with at least a 2:1 degree in a quantitative subject such as Mathematics, Statistics or Business.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Strong coding skills in particular R or SAS. SQL, VBA also considered.
- Innovative and proactive approach to simplifying processes.
- Strong communication (written and verbal).
- Knowledge of various reserving techniques and familiarity with ResQ.
- Strong excel skills and working knowledge of other Microsoft products, such as Word/Powerpoint.
