Reach Plc has an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior editor to lead the BristolLive newsroom and help us grow our audience and develop a deeper relationship with our readers across Bristol and beyond.

BristolLive has developed a strong brand and a reputation for championing the city, campaigning on the issues that matter, inspiring our audience and telling the best stories of the people who live here.

We’re looking for someone with a passion for the city, who has a proven track record in audience growth and engagement and can help us further develop our brand and our audience, making us an essential part of the life of Bristol.

This is a senior role and we’re looking for someone who will live and breathe the city, working predominantly in our Bristol hub but with the flexibility to work from home when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the BristolLive newsroom to achieve digital audience growth and engagement targets.
  • Shaping our content agenda in line with our brand values.
  • Ensuring all resources in the newsroom are clearly focused and managed as effectively as possible to deliver digital targets.
  • Creating an environment that encourages new ideas for digital content that will drive audience growth and engagement.
  • Ensuring effective use of social media, email newsletter and innovation tools by our newsroom.
  • Acting as ambassador and champion of BristolLive and Reach Plc as a whole.
  • Fostering a high performance culture by setting clear expectations and developing our content editors and line managers to grow professionally.
  • Rewarding and recognising great performance and celebrating achievements and successes.
  • Supporting the overall company strategy, including our ambitions our diversity and inclusion and ensure we are inclusive in our actions and editorial output.
The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience of managing a team at a senior level.
  • Communication, including written, face-to-face, presentation skills and the ability to cascade consistent messages for maximum impact.
  • Delegation and coaching skills.
  • Planning and organisation.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Digital publishing skills with a track record of audience growth.
  • Social media skills with a track record of building communities on social media.
  • Passion for digital storytelling in local journalism.
  • Strong track record in telling stories, accurately, which engage large audience.
  • Proven track record for digital storytelling.
