InYourArea, an innovative and emerging product from Reach PLC, is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled React Native Engineer to help us deliver the next stage of its product life-cycle.

InYourArea has experienced rapid growth over the last two years and the engineering team will be vital to the challenge of transitioning into and establishing a successful maturing of the product.

There are 47m online readers in the UK, 30.8m of who get local news from the Live network – 65% of all adults. Our network of over 70 websites provides 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with 8.1 billion page views per year.
You will mostly work on InYourArea’s iOS and Android apps that are built using React Native.
We build in house RESTful API services and utilise AWS Lambdas for a lot of those (using Typescript and MongoDB as a data store). The ideal candidate would be able to help with the development of these, but this is something we can provide training for once they start
We are a small and cohesive team, who have the responsibility for building software in the way we feel most comfortable. We aim for fast delivery while maintaining quality and a focus on improving the software we work on.
We employ a Continuous Delivery approach which means that we can deploy new versions of our apps as often as we can. We can also deploy our back end services to production multiple times a day.
The ideal candidate
We use AWS extensively, and we provision our own resources (using AWS CDK and Cloudformation), so some knowledge of AWS will help. We expect to mentor you in this aspect though.
We have adopted Agile and Scrum processes to help focus our efforts on delivering features of high quality whilst still being rapid and responsive. Our squads are self managing and define their own personalised ways of working to suit their needs. Suggestions for changes and improvements are always welcome and encouraged.
We strive to receive real feedback from what we’ve built in the form of real user stats, as quickly as possible after we’ve built it, and we relentlessly do whatever we can to drive this time-to-feedback downward. We deploy changes to Production as often as possible.
We are comfortable with the fact that our decisions and the result of our work will be proven wrong by stats, and adapt very quickly.
