InYourArea, a new product from Reach PLC, is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and customer driven Product Operations Manager to support our product function in scaling the product & improving operational efficiency.
InYourArea is the UK’s leading neighbourhood platform for news, views & things to do. We’re for anyone who wants to make the most of all that their area has to offer and to make it a more positive place to be. Our ambition is to be the go-to place to consume and contribute to all kinds of local insider knowledge.
We aim to support local journalism by providing tools and information to improve local storytelling and we aim to offer local and national businesses a set of high value commercial products to promote their businesses.
As a team, we focus on operating entirely lean, being innovation-driven and doing everything rapidly.
Although the product is relatively new, we are in a scale up phase and looking to build on our success, drive retention and evolve the product further.
Office work – This role will require 1-3 days a week in our Canary Wharf office.
So, who are we?
Every day our newsbrands – national and regional, in print and online – reach millions of people up and down the country. We are the UK’s largest news publisher and 5th largest digital platform.
There are 47m online readers in the UK, 30.8m of who get local news from the Live network – 65% of all adults. Our network of over 70 websites provides 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, with 8.1 billion page views per year.
This is a key role where you’ll balance improving day to day processes involving commercial & editorial teams with gathering key data & insights to help guide decision making & prioritisation for product managers.
There are many parts of InYourArea. For example, we have built our own self serve advertising platform, there’s a CMS, a web app, native mobile apps & 3rd party integrations to be maintained. You will be responsible for ensuring that we are collecting the right data to guide decision making, devising plans to improve how daily operations run and making sure cross-functional product teams work efficiently and effectively.
You’ll be responsible for helping to understand our customers, via gathering information from all our data sources and by devising your own market research.
Working closely with other product managers you will need to ensure the right tools are being used for the right processes and functions.
An element of this role will also be making sure QA is conducted & improved.
You will provide inspiring & effective communications to regional and national stakeholders and will develop and implement new business processes.
You’ll maintain necessary technical, UX & market knowledge to understand our product, the market & future opportunities.
We are a small and cohesive team, and we always optimise for shortest time to market, which often results in releasing working, usable but imperfect products that we iterate on and improve.
The ideal candidate
You need to have experience with digital advertising, product and operational teams. We will consider people with similar transferable skills who have a genuine enthusiasm for the role.
An understanding of the different needs and requirements of different stakeholders including small local advertisers, large national brands & internal teams.
You need to be an effective collaborator and have an ability to manage relationships and stakeholder expectations. Experience leading projects or in project management would also be valuable.
We are looking for someone who knows their way around data. You should know how to gather, extrapolate meaning from it and be able to communicate that to product managers and other stakeholders.
You’ll also need to be a great communicator – we want to see you turn complexity into understandable and clear priorities.
You’ll be proactive in spotting where improvements need to be made and taking ownership of making business processes better both independently and in collaboration with other stakeholders.
Expertise using spreadsheets/Google Analytics/Data Studio/Tableau e.g. creating charts, forecasts and interpreting data is highly desirable. Being able to query data tables directly would be a bonus.
