Finance Systems Analyst

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Systems Analyst to join us on our journey of continuous improvement to our finance systems at Hastings Direct.

As a Finance Systems Analyst, you will support the day-to-day running of the Finance department by ensuring all finance systems are functional and fit-for-purpose. You will provide technical and administrative support, investigation, and documentation of existing systems within the Finance department.

The Finance Systems Analyst will have a methodical approach to problem solving, who can work efficiently as part of a team to investigate and provide solutions to data issues affecting Finance Systems within the business. Working in a hybrid working model, based at our HQ in Bexhill.

About the role

This role will work closely with finance end-users to resolve any systems-related queries and problems. Working with Financial Control to ensure access to systems is well controlled and processes properly documented. You will also work collaboratively with the IT department to keep finance systems well supported from a general IT infrastructure perspective.

You will support project work which will really contribute towards the continuous improvement of the department. Projects include assisting with system upgrades and migrations, as well as identifying opportunities for improving existing systems, and researching & implementing new systems. This also requires Service Desk Liaison, Software Supplier management as well as internal stakeholder management.

Although experience is not necessary, the software that we currently use includes – Access Applications, CDM, GroupIT, PT-X, FMIS, Checkprint, Legerity FastPost, PolicyTech, Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams, Excel, VBA, Access, Visio, Visual Studio, SSMS).

About you

  • A methodical approach to problem solving – ability to analyse data and solve problems with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent Excel skills and knowledge of relational databases.
  • High level of accuracy with the ability to reconcile large volumes of data.
  • Able to explain technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills – ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication, listening and influencing skills (both internal and external).
  • Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and the ability to multitask.
  • Good attention to detail and concentration.


  • Experience of working in an environment with strict controls/GDPR/auditing framework.
  • Experience of writing business documentation and process notes.
  • Relevant formal qualification in computer science or information systems or possibly another relevant qualification, if supported by experience as a business/systems analyst.
  • Demonstrable practical experience, applied during studies or in a working environment, supporting application systems.
  • Experience of contributing to the delivery of projects using structured project management approaches such as Agile.
  • A general understanding of a finance department.
  • Experience of process mapping, such as Visio.
  • Experience of a reporting tool, such as Crystal Reports.
  • Advanced Windows OS knowledge e.g., Active Directory, security groups, ODBC connections etc.
  • Knowledge of database technology such as SQL, MS Access, SSIS packages etc.
