We are looking for a new Editor for EssexLive, HertsLive, and BedfordshireLive to take these brands to the next level.

EssexLive is already Reach’s biggest brand in the East of England and we have big ambitions for it. HertsLive was one of Reach’s fastest growing sites launched in 2020, and BedfordshireLive already reaches more than 300,000 readers a month after going live in January 2021.

These brands need an innovative, enthusiastic and inspiring editor to cement their place in their local communities. You need to be passionate about local news, and determined to play your part in ensuring regional journalism has a bright future. Above all, you’ll know that we need to delight readers every day, and become part of daily life in many different ways.

Leading a team of talented Reporters and working closely with our other South East editors, content editors, and audience team to make sure our content is seen by as many people as possible.

You will be comfortable leading from the front and never settle for anything less than the best. In the South East we are all about delivering the details for our readers – and we will need you to be obsessed with this too.

You’ll need a good knowledge of social media and search, have proven experience of growing audiences and strong digital publishing skills.

We want someone who has management experience and is passionate about developing their staff.

The role offers flexible working of home working but you will need to be based in or very near to Essex, Hertfordshire, or Bedfordshire due to the nature of the job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead newsrooms in producing content which engages readers and reaches as many people as possible.
  • Publish content online, and ensure published to Reach digital publishing standards are met at all times.
  • Ensure IPSO standards are met at all times, and every piece of content is legally sound.
  • Manage home pages and audience engagement channels (social, newsletters etc) as and when required.
  • Mentor and develop Reporters and others reporting directly in Northants and the wider region.
  • Taking accountability for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes.
  • Fostering a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions.
  • Developing a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work.
  • Rewarding and recognising great performance, celebrating people’s achievements and successes.
  • Ensuring the continued development of team members, supporting them to reach their full potential.
  • Partnering with our HR team to attract, develop and maintain the best talent to help the business achieve its goals, now and in the future.
  • Including monitoring engagement and using employee feedback to continually improve.
  • Acting as a role model and taking a lead on change initiatives to support the group’s strategy and our employees.
The Ideal Candidate

  • You will be an experienced Editor or Content Editor who is able to demonstrate that you will lead to the next level
  • You’ll have a passion for digital storytelling in local journalism, strong digital publishing and social media skills
  • Strong people management skills.
