Now we’re looking for an experienced Royal Editor to significantly grow that audience further to cement our position as the top Royal destination in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the Royal output of the website and making sure we lead the way in all coverage of the UK and European Royal families
  • Ensuring high standards are maintained at all times and that all Royal content is authoritative, distinctive, engaging and adheres to the brand guidelines
  • Manage and develop a team of enthusiastic young Royal reporters
  • Set the agenda on the Royal beat and deliver traffic-busting exclusives
  • Ensure the Express website always has the very best and latest Royal pictures, video and infographics
  • Commission the very best Royal analysis and comment in real-time
  • Write distinctive and powerful Royal analysis quickly
  • Enthusiastically lead our digital-first approach, blending speed and rigour with a determination to beat our rivals to the very best Royal stories
The Ideal Candidate

  • A track record of being a brilliant Royal reporter or editor at a senior level
  • The ability to manage a team and nurture talent while also sourcing and writing brilliant exclusive content – a genuine player-manager
  • An obsession with all things Royal – both in the UK and overseas- and the ability to turn this into stories that matter to ordinary people
  • Commissioning experience and a network of first-class Royal contacts
  • Experience in digital and a commitment to growing our online audience.
  • Knowledge and experience of SEO, social media and direct publishing tools
  • Able to work to strict deadlines
  • Able to compile a newslist containing engaging Royal stories on a daily basis
  • Be a self-starter and pitch strong, innovative ideas to push the site forward
  • The ability and gravitas to represent the Express website to senior stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • NCTJ qualified
  • At least five years experience as a senior journalist, ideally at a national level
  • Good digital experience
  • A background in covering the Royal family
