Deputy Picture Editor

We are hiring a Deputy Picture Editor to join our team who will support and help drive our use of engaging images on all platforms and across Reach titles. In the role you will lead other members of the team daily. As Deputy Picture Editor you will report to the Head of Pictures, deputising for the Picture Editors as and when required.

What will the role involve?

  • To have excellent knowledge of current affairs and of what is newsworthy.
  • Picture tasting from the wires.
  • Budget control
  • Help compile a daily picture schedule for daily conference
  • Generate ideas for picture led features that will work for both print and online media.
  • Assist in organising and communicating with photographers and promote their work.
  • Search social media for new, relevant newsworthy images to accompany a breaking news story for print and online.
  • Pictures requests for print and online stories.
  • Assist in organising, directing and communicating with photographers and promote their work.

Who are we looking for?

  • Calmness under pressure, ability to pick out the best images for a story
  • Adept at picking up new systems – CHP/Escenic/Contentwatch.
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • High level of professionalism is required
  • An eye for a great picture and an interest in photography
  • Experience of the picture industry
  • Understanding and keen interest in current affairs
  • Self-motivated and enjoy working as part of a team
  • Proven ability to work under pressure with excellent time management skills
  • This job involves shift work, including evenings and weekends. Hours will vary and candidates must be flexible.
