Content Editor (Google Showcase)

We are looking for a Content Editor who can help make sure the most important stories of the day reach the readers who need to see them – even if they are not looking for them.

Google recently announced the launch of Showcase, a partnership with publishers to present the most important stories of the day to readers around the country.

It’s a frustration we’ve all had: How do we get the stories to readers who need them – but don’t know to look for them?

You’ll have a team of journalists working with you, who will split their time between your team and developing as reporters themselves.

We need someone with great news sense who understands what each and every one of our brands is trying to stand for.

We set out to inform, indulge, inspire and involve our readers in our stories. We want to be part of everyday life, the turn to source for news and information right across the UK. And whenever possible, we want to do it with a smile, too.

This role puts you right at the heart of our editorial operation. Daily, you’ll be working with newsrooms across England and Ireland to choose the stories we should be promoting, and feeding back on what’s working too.

This is a Home Based role so candidates can be based anywhere in the UK.

Role Responsibilities

What will the role involve?

  • Lead a team of brand content curators in producing content which engages readers and reaches as many people as possible
  • Publish content online, with an initial focus on mobile platforms including Google News and Google Discover
  • Curating content: Selecting stories, checking headlines and choosing images for content published
  • Ensure Reach digital publishing standards are met at all times
  • Ensure IPSO standards are met at all times, and every piece of content is legally sound
  • Mentor and develop the team’s trainee journalists / brand content curators
  • Taking accountability for the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes
  • Fostering a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions
  • Developing a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work
