CheshireLive content editor – 7 month contract

CheshireLive is Cheshire’s premier news website. Our journalists cover every aspect of life in the county. Whether it’s breaking news or long-reads on living in a rural village, we cover it all. And we’re now looking for a new member of the team to help deliver more of the content that makes CheshireLive such a fast-growing site.

The Content Editor role requires someone who has a sixth sense for what people want to read, but who can also interrogate data and trends to make sure we are delivering the right content at the right time. The ideal person for this job is someone who’s as comfortable handling complex court copy as they are at making an in-depth interview keep a reader’s attention right to the end.

We need someone who can write headlines that will stand out from the crowd, who knows what works and why it works; who can turn a quiet day into one packed with interesting content that will hit the right note with readers; who can make sure that we make the most of every opportunity, every time; who is as creative as they are organised, and who knows how to work with reporters to ensure that the ideas keep flowing.

What will the role involve?

  • You will be a leading figure on the CheshireLive newsdesk, editing stories, forward planning and reacting quickly to breaking news

  • You will look after the continued development of team members, supporting them to reach their full potential

  • You will be required to handle a content management system to publish content online

  • You will also manage our news lists, social schedules, and send out newsletters to our subscribers

Who are we looking for?

  • NCTJ qualification or equivalent

  • Experience working on a newsdesk or as a senior reporter

  • Deep knowledge of media law and IPSO code of practice

  • Passion for digital storytelling in local communities

  • Strong knowledge of the local area and know what matters to the people living there

  • Social media and SEO experience

  • A full, clean driving licence
