We are looking for an Assistant Print Editor to join our North West office at Reach PLC.
Supports the Head of Print in managing all aspects of print production-related activity across the range of daily and weekly titles across the north west.
Provides operational leadership of Story Editor team and assists in ensuring the group strategy for print is understood and fully embedded.
Structure and reporting relationship: Reports to Head of Print. Provides line management support for story editors
Job Dimensions: Acts as direct line management layer between Story Editors and Head of Print. Can be expected to act up for Head of Print when required. Provides daily leadership and direction to the Story Editor pool. Expected to develop successful working relationships with colleagues in Commercial, Newspaper Sales and Marketing departments.

Support Head of Print in management of department responsible for the production of all daily and weekly titles in the north west
Ensure that print products are produced as efficiently as possible, to deadline, to standard required and in line with brand values
Ensure tasks are completed in accordance to IPSO and legal requirements
Lead, inspire, motivate, influence and support the production team in delivering the vision, strategy and business plan as laid out by Head of Print
Be the line manager for a small group of story editors
Ensure the smooth-running of holiday/lieu day administration ensuring minimum staffing levels are maintained at all times
Maintain effective working relationships with commercial, newspaper sales and marketing departments
Work with pre-press on edition planning and ad plan management
Work and collaborate with IT on system-related developments and enhancements
Work on production-related projects as directed by Head of Print
Support Head of Print in ensuring the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes is carried out
Set clear expectations and provide in-the-moment performance feedback to Story Editor team
Support the Head of Print in developing a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work

The ideal candidate
Proven ability in managing teams working to daily deadlines
Deep understanding of the brands they are responsible for in terms of page design, story selection and placement
Ability to design pages and write headlines at speed and under pressure to the required standard
Organisational and time-management skills
Ability to assess workload and delegate responsibilities and key tasks
Problem-solving and decision making
Coaching and mentoring to maximise the potential of direct reports and the wider team
Pageflow and production schedule management
Sub-editing, headline and caption writing to high standard
Full awareness and understanding of latest IPSO and legal requirements
