Acting Deputy Head of Social Media – Maternity Contract

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Acting Deputy Head of Social Media to join our Nationals social team.

You will be responsible for managing a team of 17 and help lead the way with our social media strategy.

This is a maternity contract position and will be based full time at our London Hub (Canary Wharf).

Role Responsibility

  • Helping to lead a team of 17 social media editors and senior social media editors
  • Leading the development of Reach’s social media strategy alongside the Acting Group Head of Social.
  • Liaising with department heads and journalists across the newsroom to ensure social media best practice is followed
  • Taking a prominent role in forward planning around major events
  • Providing training to journalists on social media house style and serve as a point of call for advice
  • Finding new creative ways to drive traffic to our sites and grow our audiences

The Ideal Candidate

  • You will have experience working in a social media position previously before and have a strong understanding of our social media strategy
  • Knowledge of media law and have a background in journalism
  • Fluency in social listening tools and analytical data
  • In depth knowledge of social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat and Reddit
  • Ability to thrive under pressure
  • Understanding and have a keen interest in current affairs
  • A sharp eye for a story
  • Shows flexibility in the role and is willing to work shifts at unsociable hours (including weekends)
