The Major Rail Projects Group (MRPG) within the Department for Transport sponsors the delivery of High Speed 2 (HS2), one of the UKâs largest and most complex infrastructure programmes. As HS2 enters a critical âResetâ phase to improve cost, schedule and performance, strong sponsorship is more important than ever.
As an Assistant Delivery Sponsor, youâll play a key role in ensuring HS2 delivers value for money while maintaining progress. Youâll work closely with HS2 Ltd, providing oversight, challenge and support across major work packages, while helping to inform Ministers and senior leaders.
This role supports the sponsorship and oversight of HS2 delivery, either focusing on Old Oak Common Station or Main Works Civils across Phase One of the programme.
Youâll ensure delivery partners are performing effectively across cost, schedule and scope, while supporting decision-making at the highest levels of government.

- Monitoring and reporting delivery performance against cost, schedule and scope
- Analysing data to identify risks, trends and opportunities
- Providing robust challenge to HS2 Ltd and delivery partners
- Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Supporting responses to emerging delivery issues and risks
- Briefing Ministers and senior officials on project performance
- Contributing to cross-programme learning and continuous improvement
- Visiting sites to build understanding of delivery progress
